This Earth Day, Protect Our Planet
Earth Day is celebrated on April 22 every year and billions of people celebrate it. It is a day that encourages all of us to take action and safeguard the world we live on. It’s an excellent time for each of us to consider how we can combat climate change and help to the preservation of our beloved planet, keeping it safe and healthy for future generations.
The climate emergency is simply that – an emergency. And the sheer weight of it all might leave most of us feeling overwhelmed and useless. We provide you with Insight Timer Earth, a platform where we may inspire and engage our community via environmental education, eco-conscious content, and meaningful interactions. This collection combines guided meditations, natural sounds, courses, and challenges to increase our awareness of the world around us, bring us together to make change, and tap into Mother natural’s power. This account’s revenues are contributed to our highlighted organizations.
Here are some simple ways to connect with and protect our planet this Earth Day (or each day!):
Connect with the Earth
Spend some time connecting with the Earth, the land on which you live, and the area you call home. Taking your shoes off the next time you’re in the park or garden to feel the grass beneath your feet might help you connect. Make time to stroll on the sand and dip your feet in the sea if you live near a beach, or simply go for a walk outside and gaze at the trees. A walking meditation might help you slow down and become more aware of your surroundings.
Individually, we have the simple yet powerful ability to do what it takes to defend our world. Make a promise on Earth Day to begin making tiny and large improvements to your daily choices, behaviour, and interactions. What each of us decides to do and how we do it has a significant impact.
Switch to reusable bags
It is estimated that 4 TRILLION plastic bags are used worldwide each year. We seldom reuse them, and they are not recyclable. It is simple to make the move to reusable bags. The most difficult thing is remembering to bring them with you! Leave them at the door or in the car, and if you forget them, hunt for empty boxes in the store or buy a life bag.
Use a reusable water bottle
Another simple and effective practise is to replace plastic water bottles with BPA-free stainless steel water bottles. It will save you money; the average American purchases 167 throwaway plastic water bottles every year, costing $266. It will also help preserve the environment. Only around 23% of plastic bottles are recycled each year. The remainder is disposed of in our seas, landfills, and towns, damaging the environment and killing thousands of fish, dolphins, whales, turtles, and birds each year.
Eat less meat
Choose a plant-based dish for your next meal. According to thorough study, if everyone became vegetarian for only one day, the United States would save 100 billion gallons of water and cut greenhouse gas emissions by 1.2 million tones of CO2! Imagine what we could do if we made greater long-term adjustments to our nutrition.
Say no to plastic
The next time you are grocery shopping, think about the number of cleaning products, cosmetics, and food products that are packaged in plastic or plastic bags. The plastic production each year is 300 million tons, the same weight as the entire human population, 50% of which is for single-use. By making adjustments where we can, such as choosing items and purchasing with companies that use paper, glass, or other recyclable packaging.
Say yes to sustainable fashion
The fashion sector accounts for 10% of global carbon emissions each year, which is more than all international flights and marine transport combined. If current trends continue, the fashion industry’s greenhouse gas emissions would increase by more than 50% by 2030. Daily decisions regarding where and how to buy garments are critical to minimizing further environmental damage caused by the fashion industry. Do your homework and ask questions of the brands you’re considering purchasing from. Better still, reuse or repurpose what you already have, organize clothing exchanges with friends, or purchase used clothing.
Organize a community clean up
Investing in our world may begin in your own backyard. Organizing a community clean up may entail carrying a garbage bag with you. Cleaning up trash on your neighborhood’s streets, parks, and beaches. Organize a recycling system or speak with your local municipality about how to care for your community. This is the quickest approach to see instant effects and achieve long-term improvements in your community. If we all did this, we could immediately cut a lot of trash!
Advocate for climate education
We must look to our local schools, institutions, and communities for solutions to climate change. Climate action must be promoted through education as in only 53% of national education curricula, climate change is mentioned. Sadly, with very low priority. It assists individuals in understanding and responding to the effects of the climate catastrophe. It helps them by providing them with the information, skills, values, and attitudes required to engage as change agents.
